I see nothing by that name documented, but this area was popular among winter vacationers from the North, particularly from the midwest. Because the census was normally taken in the spring and summer months, the winter visitors had mostly returned home. This does not necessarily mean that the family you speak of was among those visitors.

The Mobile County Probate Court is on line (Probate Court, Mobile, on your search engine). The marriage records go way back. You might visit that site and see if that surname is in the records back than. Just a suggestion.
