Thomas,
Thank you for trying to assist me.
I have been researching my family history for years, not only have I used Family Search with LDS, but I have a subscription with ancestry.com, I also have a password and ID to access Heritage Quest (this Heritage Quest website is not through ancestry.com), along with other subscriptions to genealogy websites.
Several years ago, I was missing the 1920 census for my paternal grandfather. I typed in Dr and his surname, voila-my missing census record.
I even accidentally found one of my Chandler census records listed in the index as "C ?"
I have census records for just about everyone in my large database. I am aware that census takers often spelled phonetically. I also considered the possibility of "Alice", but I have not found any record that shows her with a middle initial of "A".
Based on my extensive research-not only with census records-but with other documentation, in this case-it is my opinion that for the census she used her husband's name.
The name "Allis" is on other documentation. It has also been recorded in some instances as "Elias", which is probably the correct spelling as other family members were named Elias or Eli. Again, this is an avenue that I am doing further research on. But from the information and documentation that I have-I feel strongly that she is the wife of Rev. Robert Allis Chandler-mother of 12 children.
I am hoping that one of the "Nacogdoches" Chandlers might have a Bible record or other documentation to further verify my theory, until I can assess my cemetery photos. There is always the possibility, she might have been buried in an unmarked grave or that her tombstone has deteriorated over the years. I just feel that there is further documentation on her in some dusty attic, because of things I have learned in my research. For example: her great grandson's (Franklin Lafayette Chandler) wife-Martha Ann Baker was brought back to Nacogdoches from Milam Co., Texas to be buried next to her husband in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Another Chandler was brought back from Madera Co., California to Travis Co., Texas to be buried next to family.
Her husband was the Reverend Robert Chandler, so one of my future research projects is to try to locate church records for the Primitive Baptist Church in Alabama.
Again, I really appreciate you replying to my post. It is wonderful to see other researchers trying to assist others. Hopefully, others will follow your example.
In this case, I had knowledge of the information that you shared, but I was glad to see you post it because it will probably assist other researchers with less experience.
