As you can see and is the case in about 65% of the Ancestry com census indexes, Nunlee was not spelled correctly because the typist didn't "read" the name.
To answer your question, Gus's birth and death information is from his gravemarker as his bride outlived him by 50 years. Texas did not enforce reporting births and deaths to the state until about 1920 and Delta County appears to have been one of the laggers...
Of course, it is also extremely possible that there is a death certificate but listed under some mangled form of Nunlee making it unidentifiable......
