Roger Lee Bates - jailed for prohibition

My grandfather, Roger Lee Bates (son of Shellie Houston Bates & Ora Alice Blanks) was born on Oct 23 1910 in Laurel, Mississippi.

On Dec 28 1933, when Roger was 23, he married Margaret Lois HICKS. Margaret Lois Hicks was born on Oct 12 1906.
One daughter, born in 1934 named Margaret Louise Bates, came from this union. Roger Lee Bates and Margaret Lois Hicks divorced sometime after.

On Jun 01 1945, when Roger was 34, he remarried to Gladys Mae SKINNER in Jefferson County, AL.

Per Roger's daughter, Roger went to jail during the prohibition years for selling/making moonshine. The jail said they would lessen his sentence if he gave up who his partner in crime was, but he would not (his partner was a family member or friend) because he knew if they both went to jail, both of their families would not be provided for. So he took the fall for the entire operation.

Does ANYONE know anything about this, have an article about it, have a police / jail record, or know the relative/friend he was in cohorts with?

Thanks in advance, Tonya Adams vatonya.adams@att.net
