I know how frustrating it is trying to get your hands on something that should be fairly simple. I don't know why you haven't been able to get the info you need, but as for Tallapoosa County courthouse, one of the clerks there sent me not only a copy of the 1888 marriage license I needed, but also a letter written by the parents granting permission for the girl to marry. This person was so very gracious. My hat's off to her. Also, Dallas County courthouse has books indexed to help you find info right away. My grandmother passed away at 93 years of age, never knew her father, and we located his name and more info after she died by just looking under her mother's name in the marriage book. Found out when they married, witnesses, etc. Also found that he was previosly divorced before this marriage. Therefore, I have found his 1st wife and so much more info. Dallas County is getting more organized. The only thing we could not find were divorce records, which were in the basement. Hopefully, some high school or history students from college will take this on as a project. The basement was just full of files and boxes, which we did not even make a dent in. Good luck on your search. Hope you can find someone as helpful with your search as I did. Tallapoosa County only charged me $3.00 for my lookup. WOW!!!
