I am trying to track down some information on Zelpha Sweeten, born abt. 1836 in Alabama.
I am at the brick wall in tracking down my Browns in Benton and Drew Counties in Arkansas. I know that this Thomas J. Brown (my 3rd great-grandfather) was born in 1836 in South Carolina, and his wife Zelpha C. (unk last name) was born in 1836 in Alabama. By the time of the 1860 census, they were living in Veasey Twp in Drew County, Arkansas. Their 3 children are shown on the 1870 census as living in Osage, Benton County, Arkansas. I don't have notes about Thomas J. Brown and/or Zelpha Brown living there also on the 1870 census, but that could be an error in my posting notes, and I no longer have my subscription to Ancestry.com to look that census up again.
Their daughter Martha Elizabeth Brown is the line I descend through, and I show her on the 1880 census as living in Colville, Benton Co., Arkansas, and on the 1910 census in Garfiend, Benton Co., Arkansas.
A possible lead I'm trying to follow regarding Zelpha C. is that there is a 13-yr old Zelpha Sweeten listed on the 1850 census, which would put her at the right age. So far I haven't been able to track her other than that, though.
If anyone has any information on this family, I would appreciate sharing it with you.
