Mike,

The most certain document you will find, seeing that your great-great was born prior to birth certificates being kept, is a death certificate. This document will contain the deceased's parent's names. Normally someone close enough to the deceased to have this knowledge will furnish the information.

You can obtain a death certificate from:

Jefferson County Dept. of Health

The cost is about $12.00 and can be handled over the phone with a credit card.
