I am searching for the parentage of Sarah Melissa Kolb or Cobb who was born in Alabama in 1844. Her son's (William A. Halley) death certificate says her maiden name was "Malissia Cobb", but I am certain her name was Kolb. She married John W. Halley and the couple lived in Union Parish, LA. John W. Halley's brother married Martha Kolb (b 1852) in Union Parish, LA, so I'm pretty sure Sarah Melissa and Martha were related, but I doubt they were sisters since Martha's father was born in AL; Sarah's was born in SC.
Martha is listed on a Union Parish census as a daughter of Abraham Kolb b 1814 and Mrs. Mary Ann Barr Kolb (who had previously married and had a son named John Barr. Mary Ann Barr Kolb later married Abel Kolb (of Union Parish) and her son is listed as "stepson" on that census.
