I am trying to locate the family of a James REID (? James T.) (perhaps REED) who moved to Texas from Alabame (probably Tallapoosa Co.) or Georgia (perhaps Upson Co.) between about 1835 and 1865. He was the son of Mary A(nn) REID, and had siblings named Jesse Taylor REID (who moved to Gonzales Co., TX in 1867), Andrew B. REID, George Washington REED, Mary Ann REID RAY (whose line stayed in Alabama, Louisa/Eliza REID TRAYLOR (?LOCKE), William H. REID, John REID, Abner L. REID, Elizabeth REID DRIVER, and others -- all born between about 1813 and 1835, most or all in GA).
The mention of Jasper Co., GA, for Mary Mayes is consistent with some shreds of church notes we have from Upson Co., GA, which mention a letter of dismission from a Jasper Co. Church.
Much of the family moved from Upson Co. (probably), GA to Tallapoosa Co., AL, about 1835-1845. Mary, the mother, died there during the early 1860s. James is mentioned in the estate papers as residing in Texas.
