Hello to all ---- I am searching for the family of William J. Duke and Delila(Lila,Delia,) Duke. I have census information showing them living in Tuscaloosa, Al. in 1860. Specifically I would like to know the father of William J. who emigrated to Alabama about 1843, from around (not sure) Columbus Georgia. I estimate William J. was born about 1812. The whole family children and all moved from Alabama to Stoddard Co. Mo. about 1878-9. My gggrandfather was named General A.J. Duke. General is a name, not a title. I have found some of them that were buried in Missouri, but not all. The 1860 Census Tuscaloosa, Al. (western div.) shows as follows: William J. Durks, 48,b. Ga. Carpenter Rylie A.E. Durks, 33, b. Ga. James O. Duks,15, b.Ga. Isaac A. Duks 12, b. Al. General A.J. Duks,7,b. Al. (My direct lineage) Harriet E.V. Duks 2, b. Al. There is also a record of their marriage in Muscogee Co. Ga. August 5, 1840. I am grateful to a member of the Henrico, Va. Duke family for finding this information, as disguised as it was. We attribute the bad spelling to an illiteracy or limited literacy on the part of the family or the censustaker. (or both) Any help on this family would be very much appreciated. I have more information on this family, and would be willing to share it to any responsible cause. Thank You, Les Duke Notify Administrator about this message?
