The 1880 census that I posted for you indicates that John Nixon's oldest daughter, age 10, was born in Tennessee. Here is a possibility:

1870 Giles County, Tennessee, Lynnville P.O., p. 305a:
John Nixon, 23, born AL
Ardella, 20, b AL
Irenia J. (first name is hard to read; I guessed), 3 months

Since the first child is only 3 months old, they probably married about 1869. Here is a possible marriage record:

Database: Tennessee Marriages, 1851-1900
Name: JOHN B. NIXON
Spouse: M. A. E. BRANDON
Marriage Date: 25 Jan 1869
County: Giles
State: TN

I have no way of knowing if this is your Nixon family, but name similarities and birth ages and states do seem to fit.
Hope this helps.
Faye
