Hi! I'm looking for Nate (Nathaniel?) Gurley who fought on the Confederate side in the Civil War. My great-grandpa (Oda Otto Shipman - the Shipmans were originally from Al)of Greene Co., Mo., gave an oral history on tape of his Civil War fights before he died, and I'm now transcribing it for my dad as a Father's Day present. I'm very interested in finding out who Nate was. On the tape, it sounds like he might have a sister Nancy. It says he went on to have several girls and boys Al, Roy, and a name that sounds like 'blonde.' The stories are incredible. I'm sure he settled in Missouri, most likely near Springfield/Greene Co, but he MAY be from Alabama. I know there is a Nathaniel West Gurley who is from Alabama and inherited land near Springfield AND had a sister Nancy AND had a kid Al....but all records make it seem he would have had these kids BEFORE the Civil War, and would have been in his 50's when he fought. Did men of that age happen to fight in the Civil War? I cannot find out enough about this man! THANK YOU TO ALL!
