I am looking for info. on Margaret Gunter. I don't have much to go on, I just know she was b. in Tenn. probably 1830's. My Christopher Dike is said to have married her and had at least 2 kids by her, but I have trouble finding him in the census pre-1880 much less finding marriage info. He could have been son of Christopher G. Stivers/Stivens? and may have taken the Dykes or Dikes surname after his mother remarried to a Jacob Dikes, 1840, Pope co. Il.I know there was a Jacob Dykes in Marshall co. Al in 1830 or 1840 and he married Catherine Westmoreland, but I don't know if he is the one I am looking for. There was a Matilda Kirkland who married to two Hill brothers and then married a David Dyke and was in Jackson co., Il in 1860 or 1870. She was b. in Alabama, ca. 1811. I am grasping at straws, I know. There were some Gunters in Union co Il who came up from Tenn. (Hiram Gunter and his wife Elizabeth Lingle and fam.) I don't know of any connections to him. If anyone has any info. on the Gunter to Dyke marriage, I'd be interested. Lina (Linney) Dike b. 1870, Il listed her mother as Margaret Gunter.
