?Hi,
Yes, I believe your MARY ELIZABETH SKINNER AGEE is a daughter of ASA and ELIZABETH (CURTIS) SKINNER.
I show 5 children for ASA and ELIZABETH, viz.: WILLIAM S. SKINNER, JULIUS SKINNER, ERASMUS D. SKINNER, MARY ELIZABETH SKINNER and NANCY (or ANN) SKINNER.
I. WILLIAM S. SKINNER, born ca. 1830, married JANE S. PRICE (b. ca. 1829) 14 OCT. 1847 and had at least one child, FLORENCE SKINNER who was born in 1850.
II. ERASMUS D. SKINNER (1829-1890) is buried in the Skinner Cemetery near Old Springhill, AL and he married on 2 April 1856 JANE C. TREADWELL (b. ca. 1836).They appear to have had at least one child, LAURA E. SKINNER (b. ca. 1857).
III. MARY ELIZABETH SKINNER (b. ca. 1832) married ISHAM A. AGEE (b. ca. 1828) on 1 March 1848.I show seven children for them.
(1) LUCIUS AVERY AGEE who was born ca. 1849 and died. In 1918;
(2) HERBERT JOSEPH AGEE (1852-1922) who married NANCY SUSAN TALBERT (1848- 1982) and had 4 children, viz.:
i) FRANK L. AGEE (b. 1874);
ii) MAMIE TERESA AGEE (1878-1983) who married CHARLES LOMAX SHIELDS and had five children, whom I will not name as I do not know for certain that all of them are deceased.
iii) ALEXANDER JOSEPH AGEE (b. ca. 1881) who md. Lilla
iv) PAULINE B. AGEE
(3) THOMAS ERASMUS AGEE (b. ca. 1854)
(4) WILLIAM LAWRENCE AGEE (b. 1856) who md 1st. FANNIE GAINES and 2nd. LIZZIE WATKINS
(5) CHARLES S. AGEE
(6) MOLLIE I AGEE (b. ca. 1862-d. 1936)
(7) ISHAM AVERY AGEE, JR. (b. ca. 1865) who md. N E. SMITH.
IV. NANCY AGEE
ELIZABETH CURTIS SKINNER md. second JOSEPH AGEE 7 Feb. 1839 and by this second marriage she had five more children.
I. SAMUEL JOSEPH AGEE (1839-1906) who md. LYDIA ANN NICHOLSON
II. CHRISTOPHER H. KENNON AGEE (c. 1843-1920) who md. ANNIE E. McINTOSH (1848-1924)
III. MARTHA LUCRETIA AGEE (c. 1847-1929) who md. first a man named HAWKINS and possibly 2nd WILLIAM H. WILSON.
IV. EUGENE JOSEPH A. AGEE (ca. 1848) who md. SUSAN ANN LOWREY
and
V. ELIZABETH AGEE (b. 1851) who md. Dr. GIDEON LUCY.
JOSEPH AGEE also had children by his first marriage including ZACHARIAH AGEE and ADALINE AGEE.
By the way, I believe you omitted mentioning JAMES BOATWRIGHT in the household of JOSEPH and ELIZABETH AGEE in the 1850 Census.JAMES BOATWRIGHT is also a nephew of ELIZABETH (CURTIS) SKINNER AGEE, the son of her sister NANCY ROE KENNON (CURTIS) BOATWRIGHT ALLEN by the latter’s first marriage on 17 May 1832, that to HIRAM BOATWRIGHT which ended in divorce around early 1842.(NANCY md. 2nd on 4 Aug. 1842, JOHN GRAY ALLEN (10 June 1810-7 Sept. 1891) by whom she had four children.JOHN G. ALLEN also had three children from his first marriage and he married third, on 25 (or 22) June 1858 ANN CURTIS, a niece of his second wife NANCY.Ann Curtis was a daughter of NANCY’s half-brother, WILLIAM B. CURTIS (8 May 1788-22 June 1844) and his wife CATHERINE JONES (28 Apr. 1790-5 Apr. 1877).Ann and John G. Allen had one child of their own too.
I would question your statement that ASA D. SKINNER was born in Marengo County, AL in 1805.First, Marengo County was not created until 1818 and even the area had very limited
settlement by whites, as it was created out of the Choctaw Nation cession of 1816, if memory serves me.He could have been born in Alabama, but not in Marengo County, or even likely in the area that became Marengo County.My main files on the family are in storage, so I cannot comment further on his birthplace.I suspect though that it is more likely he was born either in North or South Carolina, or Virginia.Possibly Georgia or Tennessee and he also certainly could have been born in Alabama too as whites were already settling deeper to the south of the Choctaw and other Civilize tribes territory.
ELIZABETH (CURTIS) SKINNER AGEE’s mother ELIZABETH W. KENNON was married first on 28 Jan. 1797 in Orange County, NC to JOHN ALSTON by whom she had five children, viz., Charles Alston, Sarah (Alston) Martin, Mildred (Alston) Haley, JamesAlston, and Mary (Alston) Johnson.
ELIZABETH’s father SAMUEL CURTIS (8 Jan. 1751-24 Jan. 1846) also was married previously, his first wife being SARAH HICKS (14 Nov. 1757-12 Sept. 1810).
I hope this helps cousin.
