The Robert Sample in Marengo Co in 1830 is likely the Robert Sample b 1790 Laurens Co SC who is the son of John Sample, a Revolutionary War veteran. Joseph may be one of Robert's brothers; there were several. Johh Sample's dates are 1760-1835. This Robert doesn't have a son named Robert but one of his brothers might. This Robert went to Gonzales Co Tx in the 1850's. I have a lot of his descendants. I would look in the surrounding counties in Alabama for more Samples, particulary Clarke and Wilcox.
