Attention history buffs Macon Co., HELP !

Somehow, someway, someone who lives or knows well the county MUST be able to help me. I have for years been tracking a physician who in 1850 resided in Alabama.
His name on census looks like W G McGehee, could be W J, but probably W G McGehee. He had a large family, one of whom I believe to be my GG Grandfather Jabus McGehee. He is clearly in the 1850 census (Roll 9 page 273 enumerated 26th Oct 1850) for Macon County, Ala.with his profession clearly stated. It also states he was born Georgia.
There just CAN'T have been that many physicians, and some local historian just MIGHT know something about the history of health care, the physicians of old, etc in the area.
Any leads on how to persue this elusive potential ancestor would be greatly appreciated.
Happy New Year all
