Hello -

Looking for information on the Jacob L. Schley and family of Lowndes County, Alabama. Jacob was born in 1824 in S.C., married Ann Sherling (Rivers), born 1844, around 1879 in Lowndes County, AL. Had 3 children together (she brought 2 from 1st marriage) - P.V. Schley (1879), Frank Schley (1881), and Maud Schley (1885). In 1900 (next available census) I found Maud living in Jefferson County with "cousins", and Frank living single in Lowndes County, but nothing about Jacob, Ann, or P.V.

Family history has Maud an orphan, but can find no death records of family members to support that. Cannot find cemetery listings for Jacob or Ann (or P.V.), either. Unclear whether or not Maud was born in Lowndes or Jefferson County.

Evidence suggests that Jacob was a brother (possibly cousin) to Thomas E. Schley, who lived in the same area, but ultimately moved to Texas by 1880.

Does anyone have any information on this family? My suspicion is that perhaps Jacob died before Maud was born, Ann went to Jefferson County, and died before 1900.
