Buford: Your assumption that most of this material will not be online is likely correct. I will assume that you don't live near Limestone County hence your long distance research. In any event, Family Search does have some Alabama marriage and vital records online at:
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=allCollections&r=-1http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=allCollections&r=-1
You can click on the database of interest and do a search. It's all free.
The two newspaper references will likely be tricky to track down although sometimes a local historical/genealogical society, if it has copies/microfilm, might be willing to look them up and send you copies for a small fee. I suspect that the papers have been microfilmed and I might be able to find out which repositories have them. If you are real lucky, someone has abstracted genealogical info from them but again I would have to check around. Remember too that just because a surname appears in the index, there is nothing to guarantee that the person(s) are of your line.
LDS does have a lot of Limestone County court records plus other material on microfilm so you always have the option of renting them from your local LDS history center. The rental fee is nominal but you need a citation so that you can order the correct film. Some of these collections are very large and consist of many, many reels of film. Another thing you can do is first rent the index, if there is one, and use that to get the appropriate film. One type of record you really want to look at is probate/estate records. Again, I would have to check but it's quite possible that some earlier probate/estate records have been abstracted. I know that there is an index to deeds, a book titled: "Index to Deeds 1818-1900", transcribed by Philip Reyer and published by Limestone County Department of Archives and History. I found a volunteer on RAOGK who made copies of deeds I was seeking - I reimbursed her for copy costs and lunch, something like $15-$20. I can look for her contact info if you wish or you can just Goggle RAOGK.
Not knowing where you live I can't suggest any good genealogical libraries that might be nearby. Early in my research I located two and both helped me considerably, I found a wealth of info that's just not available online. Have you checked Alabama State Archives website? I haven't visited in quite a while but now some archives are putting up some online databases.
I don't know if this is of much help and I'm sure there are plenty of other alternatives but these are just a few that pop into my head. Rick
