Moyer family of Virginia and East Tennessee early 1800's
I am trying to find data on the family of Jacob Moyer and Sarah or Saloma Miller that was found in Botetourt Co, VA in the late 1700's. Jacob died in 1795 in Botetourt Co. Va. I don't have a date for his wife. It is believed that he had 12 children but I can only vouch for 2 of them, Mathias who is my great great great grandfather and his sister Doretha who married John Baughman and has a whole chapter of a book written by J. Ross Baughman about the Moyer family. The book is called Harvest Time or something like that.
Mathias married Mary Polly Collins and later moved to East Tennessee around Jefferson Co. Tn. It is known that they had 7 children and one being my great great grandfather Wyley M. Moyer who married Sarah Jane "Sallie" Jones in Rhea County, Tennessee 1832. According to the 1860 Rhea County, TN census they had 12 children and Rufus S is my great grandfather, he had a twin named Nancy. They are found in the 1870 Rhea County, Tn census w/ the oldest 3 children now on their own and not listed w/ Wyley. Sometime after the 1870 census Wyley and family moved to Limestone County, Alabama where he died in 1872. His wife Sallie died in 1898, both are buried in Limestone County, Alabama. Some of the children came to Alabama w/ them as the girls are found in the same cemetery as their mom, one w/ husband and the other two were married but died before their husbands and they remarried and were not buried in the same cemetery. Wyley's son Rufus married Mary Francis Weir, daughter of Leonard Lindsey Weir and Susan Young of Limestone County, Alabama and they had 7 children one being my grandfather Alford Whitten Moyers. He married Pinkie B Stewart, daughther of William Calvin and Sarah Elizabeth "Sallie" Stewart and they had 8 children one dying at birth and my mother, Edna Vivian Moyers who married dad who is still living so I'll not give his name here other than I was a Brooks before marriage.
If anyone is interested in the Moyer line that I am refering to please contact me.
