I am looking for death records and/or burial information for William McMahon (d. 1846 Lawrence County) and his wife, Rebecca Bibb (Patton) McMahon (d, 1856, also in Lawrence County).
William McMahon, born in Augusta, VA (possibly 1780) married Rebecca Patton (b. 1783) in 1802. He bought land in Harrisonburg, Rockingham, VA in 1807 and build the Old Washington Tavern there...operating it in around 1809 and on.
He was a Captain of Militia from Rockingham in the War of 1812 (116th Brigade), promoted to Colonel at some time. He served in the House of Delegates from Rockingham in 1826 and from 1828-1833 and in the State Senate from 1834-1839.
His children, all born in Rockingham, VA. are John Jordan McMahon, William P. McMahon, Charles J. McMahon, Mary E. McMahon, Robert Grattan McMahon, Asher Waterman McMahon, Maria Rebecca, and Ethelbert S. McMahon.
In 1828,son John J. moved to Courtland, AL to enter a business partnership with a gentleman named Bierne. John J. McMahon's home in Lawrence County is on the National Register of Historic Places. John's sons, Fortunatus and William (Jack) moved as well and were physicians, both served as surgeons for the Confederacy.
In about 1838, William McMahon removed from Harrisonburg to "a plantation" near Courtland. He died there in 1846 and his wife, Rebecca, in 1857.
Any information of the deaths/burials of William and Rebecca McMahon would be greatly appreciated.
