This John Norton went to the land office and received land in Lawrence County, AL. He was there early, I believe 1818 or 1819....this is off the top of my head. I have the book here with the land records. He stated that he was from Lincoln County, TN. I have not found him in a census record. The John Norton who was in the Lincoln, TN 1820 census does not seem to be the same one who was married to Jane. Jane was in the 1830 Lawrence County census and the children do not match the kids in the John entry, 1820 Lincoln, TN. I have a divorce date 1831 for John and Jane, so they were apparently already separated when the 1830 census was taken. Do you have any idea where your John was born? Do you know what happened to Jane? Did she remarry?
