Hello Pat,

I think that we have a connection. My grandfather was Riley Jackson Simmons. I belive his mother was Amanda Brooks b.1850. The timing for a 1866 marriage would be about right. I know that my Grandfather is listed in the Lawrence Co census in 1880 as living with his maternal grandmother Jane "Jenny" Brooks Johnston. I have heard that his mother died at a young age and that Riley (my grnadfather) was raised by Jenny. I do not know what his fahter's name was but my father's name is Joe Thomas (goes by Thomas), and many of his brothers had family names. Maybe the J stands for Joe or Jackson? I would be interested in any information that anyone has on the Simmons side. I have found quite a bit on his Mother's side but my Fathers knows little of his Father's history. My grandfather married Emily Drucilla Waldrep (sp?) sometime in the late 1800's to early 1900's and had 13 children. (my Dad was born in 1918 and was the 12th child) They lived in Lawrence Co.

Vanessa
