I have heard of a Ray's Store in Detroit, Lamar County, AL, but don't know if that is the Ray you are looking for. I don't know the McKinney. In the book Heritage of Lamar County, pg 13, there is a picture of John Ray and a description of Detroit with all of the stores.

Also on the Lamar County Kin website there is a family tree of a John Ray family from Monroe County, MS. This may be the one you are looking for. It can be found at

There are a few references to a Ray in the papers. They are now online at and there is a search box to locate the differnet references to Ray.

I wish you success in your research.
