dna testing for atkins and adkins
Chester Atkins 4/30/05
I saw Chet Atkins post and would like to follow up. In the past few days we have had two Adkins and one Atkinson sign up for the newely renamed Adkins/Atkins DNA Project. This was especially important since we have found an Adkins and an Atkins with the same DNA! One of my Atkins ancestors is first found as an Atkinson, then Adkins, and finally Atkins. This over a period of about 20 years from 1820 - 1840 from SC to AL, MS and LA.
This is a male only, Y-Chromosome test. Simple test, good opportunity to see if there is a match.
One of the reasons I changed the name of the group was that it was originally Adkins, but no Adkins signed up. Then six Atkins did, so we changed it. But Adkins ranks about 396 in surname frequency, whereas Atkins is number 500.
For anyone interested please contact me at [email protected], or contact FTDNA directly at www.ftdna.com and join the Adkins/Atkins project.
