I have just finished a transcription of the VERNON PIONEER, the first newspaper of Lamar County. I have divided it into 3 volumes. The first volume is for the years 1875-6. The second is 1877 and the third 1878. The first volume (1875-6) includes all 3 known issues - May 27 and July 16, 1875 and May 26, 1876 - and is 87 pages long. The second volume includes 7 issues of 1877 - Feb 23, May 18, May 25, June 1, June 13, Oct. 17, and Oct. 31 - and is 186 pages long. The third volume includes 8 issues of 1878 - Feb 6, Mar 13, Mar 27, May 3, June 28, July 5, July 19, and Oct. 11 - and is 199 pages long.

Each volume includes a transcription of every article and advertisement, a business directory divided by city as advertised in each volume, photocopies of select articles of the paper, and an index.

If interested in obtaining a copy of this "must have" for Lamar County researchers - please contact me at howven@sbcglobal.net or at 428 Danny Dr. - DeSoto, TX 75115.

(Volume 1 is $20, Volume 2 is $40, and Volume 3 is $40. Shipping and handling is $3)
