Robert -- part of your dilemma is that folks in Western Fayette in 1860 became part of southern Sanford in 1870. The northern part of Sanford came from Marion Co. Sanford became Lamar Co. in 1878. So your folks could have stayed in the same spot and "moved" from 1860 Fayette to 1870 Sanford to 1880 Lamar. And in fact, there was a real short time span in 1868 that it was named Jones Co. We just have to check the county history very closely.
