I am trying to piece together information for my George line.
For the longest time I was looking for a Bob George who changed his surname from Zacharias, per a G'Aunts hand written notes, which turns out his Name was Lewis George, from Laurens SC., and moved to AL about 1823.
The first George came to AL, through the gulf, with gov't papers to land on Bluff Ridge. I have not been able to locate this place. From there the Georges moved to Sand Mountain (once a community of Bibb Co.), Bibbville, Woodstock, Oak Grove and then finally settled in the Bessemer area. Our George cem. is located in Bessemer, it is over 100 yrs old.
Lewis moved to AL with a Land Grant from the War of 1812, well, we "think" that was what it was for anyway. The land grant was from the government.
