I have noticed several references to John or John M. Hawkins in the Jefferson Co. postings. My grandfather was a John M. Hawkins, b. abt. 1828 and married Valero Ann Perkins. His father was also a John Hawkins. John M. and Valero are buried in DeKalb Co., GA. I have seen Habersham Co., GA listed with LDS as his birthplace. His son (and my greatgrandfather) was John Gustavus Hawkins and he and his wife Elizabeth Terry Shumate (and their nine children) made their home in the Woodlawn section of Birmingham. They are both reportedly buried in marked graves in the Woodlawn Cemetery. I'd love to know more about this family.
