Edward Hawkins and wife Winnie Wells were the parents of several children, most of whom were born in S.C. in the late 1700's. One known son was Williamson Hawkins who was born in 1790 in S.C. and went to north Georgia while still in his teens. He worked in North Ga, (Cherokee Country) a few years, then sometime around 1810 or before, he went to Tennessee, met and married Elizabeth Nations and then, about 1818 moved to Jefferson County, Ala.with his wife. During the time in North Georgia, there was also other Hawkins who probably were older brothers of Williamson, There was Edward ( either his father, or Edward, Jr., a brother) and Samuel, b ca 1875 S. C., (reported to have a brother named Samuel b 1785 S.C.
This Samuel Hawkins married in 1809 in Jackson Co., Ga. and the same year, Edward and Samuel Hawkins were on the tax list of Jackson Co., both living in the same Militia Dist.. This Samel was my gggrandfather and he did go to Blount and Jefferson Cos. Ala., He made several land transactions in Jefferson Co.,(some with Williamson Hawkins (brother?) They owned adjoining land. in the 1830's. Also, Dennis Hawkins and David were there, probably all were related. (see the next postings DENNIS HAWKINS, and the deed discriptions of there properties in Jefferson Co.
