Thanks Caroline, I don't know where David McCombs was from originally. I do know he served in the Revoluntary War in A SC regiment. Also, that he married another Abbeville citizen. Since, I nor no one else that I know can tie him specifically to those Abbeville McCombs, he could possibly have be born in Kentucky, Tennessee, or even North Carolina as there were McComb(s) in all of these areas; he may even have been an immigrant into the South Carolina port. I don't have any names for Davids family other than his wife Sarah Sims. All I know is that the earliest known link to him was Abbeville, SC. Since he spent some time there, one would assume that there were more than likely other relatives there also. It is not surprizing that many of our ancestors had ties to SC since there were many of my descendants that went thru SC, GA, and then Alabama as that seemed to be the normal migration path in that day. Wish I did have some of the other siblings or a parent as that might give a clue to where he came from.
I would be glad to learn of any information be it fact or speculation as to where he came from. If I am correct your Walter and my grandfather were brothers. Thanks
