Ashby/Johnson/Possibly Cunningham

I'm looking for any information on my 3rd great grandfather, Duncan Johnson/ston, probably born about 1775-1778 - where, I have no clue. He was in that part of Jefferson Co. that was still called Blount Co., in 1818 and was a Justice of the Peace. His oldest son, Randolph Johnson, was my 2nd great grandfather, born in 1800, in Tennessee, but again, I have no clue where in Tennessee. I have a copy of Duncan's will dated 1823 with Elizabeth Ashby (spelled "Ashbay") as one of the witnesses. Later in 1823, Randolph Johnson married Elizabeth Ashby. I have no idea who Elizabeth Ashby's parents or siblings were or where she and Randolph met - maybe in Jefferson, maybe in Tennessee. Who knows? I sure don't. She was born in 1799/1800 in North Carolina, according to every census she's on, but of course, I can't find an 1820 census with her on it! Don't know how she would have gotten all the way to Jefferson Co. from NC by herself. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Sue (Johnson) Howard
