Sabtha Phebe Holland was born about 1813 in Edgefield District, South Carolina. She was a daughter of John Holland and Mary Kirkland. About 1825 the family removed to Henry County, Alabama and settled near present-day Union Springs Church.
Sabtha gave birth to an illegitimate son about 1833. The father was Isaac Kirkland. She named the child John Ellis Holland.
Sabtha married on 18 March 1841 in Henry County to Nathaniel G.W. Brown. According to the records of Henry County Orphans Court the child John Ellis Holland was placed under the guardianship of his grandfather John Holland at that time. This action was rescinded on 23 November 1844 when he was placed in the care of his natural father Isaac Kirkland. By 1850 he was living with his mother and step-father Nathaniel Brown. He appears on the 1850 U.S. Federal Census as "John E. Brown" a 17 year old male. No further record of him has been identified.
Sabtha Phebe Brown evidently married a Hutto prior to 1 January 1856. She is mentioned in the administration of her father's estate on that date as being "Phebe Hutto." No further record for her has been identified.
