Hi Quinn, thanks for the response. Yes, I do read (and post to) the AL/CSA message board but they haven't been any help with the old records of the early veteran's camps. I've been told the best bet is to buy the copies of all the early Confederate Veteran Magazines now available on CD and search through those for information, but I really can't afford that right now.
About Luke Spears--my father (now 84) remembers Luke living across from him near Samson, AL. when he was a boy and thinks he recognizes him in the photo, but he can't be 100% certain. What makes it more likely to be true though is that he is standing next to the identified Richard Redden Alford and since they were from the same community, it would be reasonable to assume that they might stand together when posing for the photo. Also standing with them is another man who strongly resembles the Alford family and might be Richard Redden's brother, Miles Alford, who was also in the same 5th Alabama Regiment, Co. K, but whom we have no photo of or descendant to identify him. Do you know something of Luke Spears? Descendant? Please contact me if you have more information or other suggestions. yours,
