Ruth, I am looking for a long shot, but here goes...Have you conducted any research on the "self" families in Fayette County. In your posting history, you have not posted any messages concerning this family.

In the 1830 census, a William Self is found in Fayette County. In 1840, William Self and Jackson Self are adjacent records in the census. In 1850, William Self cannot be found. I am confident that wife was Susannah Marshall..In 1850, Susannah Marshall is living with her father, Jabez Marshall, in Fayette County. She has six children 17 years of age and younger living with her (Jackson, not the same as above, Sarah, James, Abner, William Anderson, and Jasper). In 1860, Susannah Marshall Self is not present and only Jackson and his brother, William Anderson are found in Fayette County ages 25 and 17 and are living with other families and are listed as "hirelings". William Anderson Self is my GGgrandfather

Both William Self and his wife, Susannah Marshall, were born in NOrth Carolina. I think I have found the Self connection in Lincoln County, NC in 1790 and 1800.

Again, I do not know if you have looked at this family in Fayette County, but I have little to go on. Thanks
