1850 Census of Fayette Co., AL
484 Moore Henry 61 (Place of birth - maybe Ireland?)
Rachel 45 N.C.
Morres A.J.17 Ala
Martin V. 15 Ala
Daniel W. 12 Ala
Frances M. 11 Ala

Does anyone know anything about this family? In the Lamar Co., AL, census
of 1880
Household 542-B a Rachel Moore age 74 birthplace N.C. is listed as
mother-in-law in the home of Daniel Orear/Mahala. Mahala "Mary" was 60 so
would have made Rachel a very young mother of 14-15 when Mary was born
but that was not that unusual in that time.
I am not sure this is the same Rachel Moore in these two census records.
However, Daniel/Mahala are listed in Walker Co., AL, census records of 1850 and
1860. Records show they sold their Walker Co. property in 1861 and they
were in Fayette Co. for a time in mid 1860s. Bible record shows one of their daughters-
Minerva m. George S. McKay in Marion Co. 1869- and oldest son - John married
Cressie Gann in Sanford Co. (Lamar) in 1873. Daniel and Mahala apparently owned land
at Detroit by 1870 and were counted in Marion Co. census and then by 1880 it was
counted as part of Lamar Co.
In her Confederate Widow's application, Minerva states that she left AL for TX after
the death of her husband in 1900. She lived for a time in Fannin Co., TX, before
returning to AL. I believe she may have had some relatives there.
I would appreciate any information about the Henry/Rachel Moore family. The only
clue I have as to Mahala's family is the listing of Rachel Moore as mother-in-law to Daniel
in the 1880 census. Daniel had two older sisters listed with their families in Fayette Co. and
his father's land has been listed in both Walker and Fayette. For this reason, I think
this Henry/Rachel Moore may possibly connect to Mahala.
