Obit for William F. Kirkland - Fayette Banner - Fayette Co., AL. Clipping with no newspaper date.
Wm. F. Kirkland. Another old Confederate soldier has "passed over the river." William F. Kirkland, Co. I, 11th Alabama regiment, who died at his home near Bankston, Nov. 3, 1907, enlisted at Fayette C. H. June 19, 1861, with the first company that left the county. He went with his command to Va. and took part in all the notable battles in Northern Virginia: Seven Pines, Fredericksburg, Cold Arbon, Yorktown, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, seven days in front of Richmond and many others. He was a good and brave soldier in the true sense. He never flickered in battle, not shirked a duty in camps; was ever found at his post of duty and always willing to bear his part without murmuring. But he has fought his last battle and gone to join his many comrades who have preceded him to the other shore.
Of the 125 who went to the war in this company, only two are now in the county.
