Seek knowledge of the meaning of "Old fuunace Quarters" as noted on the 1900 U. S. Federal Census of Gadsden,Alabama[Sup. Dist. #7; Enum.Dist. #147; Sheet #17; Enumerator: Jenny[?] E. Cathey] regarding a large, integrated group of folks. The census notes some of these inhabitants as laborers, though not ALL. Some are families; some listed as single- head of household men. My gggrandfather was a 68 yr old widow living at this location. He seems to have disappeared following this census.Anyone with knowledge or ideas please reply to ths posting. Best Regards, Mary
