thank you, Gary!! That clears up the connection that I has "assumed" to be mine. I had originally found another Alexander Gilbert but the dates didn't fit. I have not looked at too many census records to date but I am now regarding them as a most valuable tool to connect families!! I had already found some info about Garvais and his ancestors and a couple of websites had his descendants but I was not sure if they were correct. Was your GGGF, Daniel, buried in DeKalb Co, AL? I have found a list of the Black Oak ME Cemetery and there are many Gilberts, including A.M. and both his wives; also P.B, born in 1822, George, b. 1848. If you have your info on a file that you could send me, I would appreciate it. I am working on a file now but so far everything I have found is still on paper.
