I am researching my husband's mother's family. The information I have is that Joel Peter Heifner (Heffner on the 1880 census) and his wife Lavonia Emily (Russell maiden name) lived in Dawson, AL just prior to 1905. They are my husband's grandparents.

I have records that Lavonia and her seven children (one unborn) came to the area of Lucas, TX, in 1905 and that Joel had passed away at that time. When Lavonia died in 1945, a newspaper article states that she had a sister still living in Dawson,Al - the name looks like "Lula Darbey or possibly Dawhey." The print is faded.

I need information on Joel Peter Heifner - some of the family members relate that he lived in Collinsville, AL, and that he was also sheriff of Dawson, AL, at some period of time. Since Lavonia was pregnant with the last child when they traveled to Texas, he had to have died sometime in the 1904-1905 time period.

Any information would be appreciated.

Wanda Jones
