Don't know who James Bailey's parents were. All I have is that he was born in SC ca. 1801. David Bailey's wife Mary was a Shelton--I have been unable to find marriage record. The only reason I know her maiden name is that my grandfather George Shelton Bailey told me that his middle name was his grandmother's maiden name. The three children you indicated for David and Mary are correct. Their son James Oliver Bailey (b. ca. 1858, married Martha Jane Westbrooks, d. 1-30-1924 Douglas Co. GA, buried New Prospect Meth. Ch. near Buford GA) was my great-grandfather. David Bailey was taken prisoner of war at Gettysburg, sent to the Ft. Delaware DE POW camp, where he contracted measles, sent from there to the military hospital at Chester PA where he died. He is buried at Chester PA. I know his brothers Worthey Oliver Bailey and Rev. Martin Van Buren Bailey went to AL
after the war and settled around Geraldine--
are you descended from W. O. or Martin?
