Claude,
I did not know that Martha Jane was raised by William Boyd BURNS, after Equilla's death. I knew she was quite young, but I guess I'd never even thought about where she went after both parents died. Thank you for the info!
I'll update your information about John Cunningham BURNS, and family. This I feel comfortable enough with to put it in INK! I've got the BURNS family bible, obits, letters, umpteen scrapbooks, etc...I even have grocery lists and gg-great Aunt Maggie's list of her classmates in school.

John Cunningham BURNS (b 22 Jul 1832 d Aug 1903)
married Elizabeth YOUNG (widow of John W. KIMBROUGH, died in cooke Co. TX 1867) 4 Mar 1869 Gainesville, Texas

Elizabeth had 4 children by John KIMBROUGH,
George W.
Ida (married TUNGATE)
John Ann (female..married REYNOLDS)
J. Boone

she had 9 children with J. C. BURNS:
Samuel Houston (b16 Dec 1869 d29 Aug 1870)
James Robert (b 20 Jun 1871 d20 Mar 1872)

Lizzie Lee (b 3 Jan 1874 d 27 Apr 1958)
my great-grandmother, married Wm T.J. SOMERS

William (b 30 May 1875 d 6 Jun 1875)

Frances Lou Ella (b 6 Dec 1877 d ? )
married Wirt ALLEN

Thomas R (b 29 Oct 1880 d 8 Aug 1881)

Margaret Myrtle (b3 Feb 1882 d Jun 1964)
married E. J. HARVEY

Iola (b 1 Oct 1884 d 29 Sep 1888)
"Baby Ruth" no dates, but I was told it was a late term miscarriage

I can never write all these dates, without thinking what a rough life it must have been! They buried all 4 of their sons, and 1 4 year old girl, and their last baby girl.

John Cunningham BURNS was a barkeeper, a barber, and he served as City Treasurer for Gainesville for a time.

John Cunningham BURNS is buried, along with most of his family, in Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville.

I feel sure that he was married before, there was a J.C.BURNS Jr. listed in one of the Gainesville City Directories, and he was described as a medical student. But, I have no information about an earlier marriage.
