Edward: Thank you for your reply. My "remarks" actually came from a paper written in 1969 by Creel Richardson who is now deceased. To quote him: "This community in the mountains of the eastern section of present day Jackson County, North Carolina was named Argura. The settlers here changed the second r ot t and thus it became Arguta. He did not give a source for this particular statement and it does seem you have done your homework and sound logical on your opinion concerning the name. While we cannot change history we can surely add your words of wisdom to the mix. Bottom line is theory unless proven so I will be sure to mention this as I have not gone to publication to date. Any additonal information you may have and wish to share would be most appreciated. Thanks for the story! Norm Notify Administrator about this message?
