Thanks for your reply. I really don't think this Martha A. Mathews that you mentioned is the Martha Matthews married to Bennett Godwin that I am looking for. I am actually interested in their daughter. Her name appears to be Phinette. I am looking for a Winnie Godwin. These two were born about the same yr (1842)so therefore I thought perhaps the spelling for Phinette was incorrect-or even the handwriting was wrong.

I have been looking for Winnie Godwin's parents for over a yr. They were in the Dale Co area when she was born, 1842. She married my ancestor, James Henry Ezell, in Dale Co abt 1858. According to the 1900 census, she lists her parents (Godwins) has having been born in SC. So, I am looking for a family of Godwins who came to Dale Co from SC, before 1842.
