Karen, Your query interested because Columbus Co, NC is mentioned. I think (have no proof) that my Butler family may have come from Columbus County too. In my desperation to find my Butler family in NC, I have begun to look for who they may have migrated with to Covington County!

Just a thought....do you think the writer of this old letter may have been named Cartwright? These other family names mentioned in the letter are found near my Butlers in Coffee and Covington Counties in 1850 and 1860. Old Jacob Strickland was still living in Coffee County in 1880.
