Happy New Year:
I am not real familiar with Alabama but I did look at a highway map and found Hatchet Creek running right through the middle of Coosa County. I'm also not completely sure but I know that part of Coosa County and Autaga County also became part of Elmore County after the War. William Wesley Church is stated as being born at Hatchet Creek. I guess that was a settlement because the creek is a long one. He married Nancy Thompson on March 13, 1862 just before enlisting in the 53rd Alabama Cavalry. After the War records were kept in Elmore County. I don't know if they moved there or the land they were on was transferred.
I have looked at Coosa County and I have found many Thompsons, but not the one I am interested in. I know nothing of Nancy or her family. I know that she survived her husband who died in 1893 because she applied for a widows pension in Elmore based on his military service.
If you have knowledge or access to knowledge about Nancy would you share it with me. Phillip
