Butler family of Conecuh County, Alabama - Mid 1800s
I've been researching my great-great grandfather, John Butler, for several years, but have found very little. He was in Conecuh County, AL, in the 1850 census, listed as "overseer" on the farm belonging to Caroline Grace Mims.John Butler entered a bounty land warrant in 1856, but that is a dead end.He and Caroline were married sometime after 1850, and they are listed on the 1860 Conecuh County Census, along with their daughter, Mary (Josephine).John Butler died about 1862.Unfortunately, the Conecuh County Courthouse burned in 1866, so if there were any records on him, they are lost.I've not been able to connect him to any other Butlers in the area, but I do know he was born in Alabama about 1820.On the 1860 census, he is living in the Sepulga Post Office Beat...the only other Butler living in the Sepulga Post Office Beat is Daniel Butler, 63 years, his wife, 60 years old, and two teenagers.Does anyone have anything on this Daniel Butler family. Some of Caroline's relatives were named Hilliard and Piggott, and they also lived in Conecuh County.Caroline Butler remarried to Nathan Hendrix in 1867, and moved to Pensacola, Florida. Although there were Butlers living near where she lived on the 1900 census, I've not been able to determine if they are in any way kin.
