According to the 1880 Colbert County Alabama census index, my g-g grand mother’s brother, John Brown , age 67 was a teacher living with a wife, Sarah, age 52, a son , Virgal age 20, a son , Emmett B. , age 17, and a daughter, Emma V. G. .A Peter Hassel , age 12 of no relation was also living with them.
It is possible that Jon could also be his son, but he was not athis father’s home in 1880 and is not listed in Colbert Co., AL.You might check the 1870 census for him which is not readily available to me.I can not find a “Jon” in Alabama or the United States in 1880, but his name may have been listed as “John”.
There is also a John C. Brown, age 27 (listed with siblings) and a John Brown, age 15, the son ofPatrick of Tuscumbia, AL listed in the 1880 Colbert Co., AL census, who could have beenhim. Two of my John Brown’s sisters lived in or near Tuscumbia. However, the two above John Browns appear to be ofno close relationship to my g-g grandmother‘s brother..
I did find a JohnW. Brown age 35 with a family in Bowling Green, VA in 1880.This is very near where my John Brown came from.Did this John W. Brown’s wife die after 1880 and he remarried in Colbert Co., AL in 1884.?
There was a John W. brown age 25 in Lincoln Co TN living with an uncle. Also there was another John W. Brown age 25 in Georgia and a 2ndJohn W. Brown age 25 in Tennessee who could have been yourJon. W.
In the 1880 census, there were 154John Browns born between1830-1870, in Alabama, 200+ in Tennessee, and 73 in Mississippi.I am afraid I can be of no further help to you without add ional information.
