Has anyone noted that the 1870 Coffee County census is missing at least 4 page images in the Elba beat, on the microfilm? Original handwritten page images are numbered through "46" (463 in machine-stamped numbers) enumerated in July 1870, and then there is a section of out-of-order pages where the originals are now numbered "157" (464 in machine-stamped numbers) and enumerated in September 1870. Then the pages return to "51" enumerated in July 1870. 4 pages counted in July seem to have been lost or misplaced BEFORE the machine-stamped numbers were added to these pages. The missing/misplaced pages would be numbered 47-50.
There could be 40 names on each of the 4 missing pages. That's 160 individuals! I'm missing the rest of the family of "John Maddox" (written "Madtox") who is at the bottom of page 46 (463B in machine-stamped page numbers). Their smallest children disappear in this one census, although they appear in the 1866 state census. These children SHOULD be at the top of the page following page 46 which has their parents. But instead, there's a totally different page enumerated months later!
If anyone has gone entirely through this Coffee County census and knows where the missing pages may be, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Or if someone has a different microfilm copy and sees different page images, please let me know!
In the 1866 state census, J. B. Mattox's neighbors included Bryant Cummings, Thos. Amason, Burris Owens, J. G. Harrelson, Geo. W. Rhodes, Tillman Cardwell.
