Excerpts from the Caldwell News Chronical, on microfilm at the Center for American History at the LBH Library, UT Austin, Hookerville News Column, Mar 18, 1898:
We are sorry to record the fact that Grandma Oldham and little Roy Watson are on the sick list, fever.

March 25, 1898: Grandma Oldham is up again and little Roy Watson is convalescent.
In 1880, all 3 of her brother's children are living with her and her family.

Her husband was apparently one of Burleson's most prominent families in those days. He and his parents are buried near Elizabeth in Porter's Chapel cemetery.

According to James Chaffin, both Pascal and Willis married daughters of Elizabeth. records of those marriages have not been located.

Since registrations of deaths at the state level were not consistent until into the 1920s and 1930s, you may find the following information, which usually applies to deaths prior to 1903, to be helpful.

Records of deaths from this period, if registered at all, were kept in the Office of the County Clerk in the county where the individual died, so you will want to contact that office. A complete listing of County Clerk addresses can be found on the Department of State Health Services Web site at: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/vs/field/localremotedistrict.shtm

In addition to contacting the County Clerk, you may wish to also review the listing of County Records on Microfilm posted on our Web site at: http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/arc/local/index.html
Some of the records you are looking for may have been microfilmed and available to be borrowed through the interlibrary loan program. Please check to see if your county is listed and the type of records which have been filmed. Then consult your local library for additional details about the program.

The Texas GenWeb project may also be of help to you. Visit their county index and see if your county is listed. The index can be found at:

Is this a different Elizabeth, or did she remarry - she obviously remarried from 1900 census when her surname is Benson?

Column:

Mar 18, 1898: We are sorry to record the fact that Grandma Oldham and little Roy Watson are on the sick list, fever.

Michelle,
I saw your posting to Jennifer. I haven't gotten to do much research in the last 4 years due to my job constraints, but I do remember you asking about George Cox. I don't remember though what I told you or sent you. I haven't been back to Burleson to do any research. I think I told you that William and Cordelia had a son named George, who was 4 yrs. old in the 1860 census of Burleson Co. George and James (my great grandfather) were sent to live with their aunt Elizabeth Oldham from 1863-1866 when their mother died. To date I have not found where William, Cordelia, John and Charles H. are buried or any other information about George.

I do believe your George is related to our Cox family. How I'm not sure. My great grandfather named his children Minnie, James Frank, William Edward, and Robert. And George and Florence were witnesses to some our of births. When do you think your George was born?

Have you tried going to google and doing a search on George? I know it sounds crazy, but I've actually found information that way, although it is a pains taking search.

Sorry I can't help you anymore, maybe some day I'll have time to start my search again.
Louise
