Looking for any info on or a link to my Wilkins family who came to Talladega/Clay Counties around 1840. William W. Wilkins ws bn 1815 Henry Co.,Ga. and married Elizabeth Carpenter(dau of Thomas Carpenter) 1838 Henry Co. They moved to the Clay/Talladega Co. area 1840-1845. Elizabeth died shortly after birth of third child George W. 1845. Children of William and Elizabeth Carpenter were: Eliza bn 1839 Ga.( married John Winkles 1880 Clay County),Sandford R.( a merchant and farmer) bn 1840 GA. died 1889 Clay Co.(married Susan?), and George W. bn 1845 Talladega Co. Al. William married a P. (Pearl?) Gordon 1852 Talladega Co.,Al. and they had a child named Nancy Lucretia Wilkins bn 1857 who married Hosea Royster 1884 Clay Co., Al. William married for the third time to Vina Ann Holdridge Hardy before 1869. ( widow of Wilson Hardy killed in the Civil War 1863-64). William and Vina had the following children: Ashland Zachary bn 1869,John S. bn 1872.,Sallie C. bn 1875,and Cora L. bn 1876. Ashland moved to Garland Co.,Ar. around 1900 and died Little Rock 1911. William died 1884 in Ashland and is buried Old Ashland Cem in Clay Co. I believe that William's father was Samuel Wilkins bn abt 1771 Ga. or S.C. and died after 1860. He appears on 1860 Talladega Co., Al. Census at age 89 living in hh with William and his children in the Court Hill District. William was a J.P.,a retail merchant, and a farmer.I am looking for parents of Mary E. "Mollie" Wilkins born 1862-1865(died 1911 Talladega Co.,Al.) Clay Co. She is found 1880 Clay Co. Census in hh of Eliza Wilkins (dau of William) and her new husband John Winkles who were married 1880. Mary age 11 is listed as step-daughter along with Flora age 2 listed also as step-dau.?? Need help here!Mary was my g-grandmother and she married William S. Hopkins 1882 in Clay Co. at the home of William Wilkins. If anyone has any info on this family, please contact me. Will apprecite your help.
